The Town of Danvers Library Trustees discussed but did not approve a draft tuition-reimbursement scholarship policy for library employees, agreeing to postpone a final vote until more trustees can review a revised investment-committee procedure.
Trustees said the delay will allow the full board to participate and ensure the investment-committee charter is finalized before funds are committed. "I would like to just vote on the policy. Yes. Because I think that's something that would be really nice to do for our employees," a trustee said during the trustees report, but then recommended tabling the action until all members can review the package.
The trustees described the current step as revising policy language and not rewriting the program. They said they will circulate a full packet including the scholarship application and the policy terms to absent trustees before the next meeting. A trustee added that the investment-committee procedures need additional detail and that she and another trustee will take one more week to refine them.
The board expects to consult Cornerstone, the library's investment advisor, after the investment-committee procedures are set to confirm recommendations for scholarship funding and asset allocation. "Once we have that in order, then we can actually vote on who we're gonna have on the committee or how we're gonna set that committee up," a trustee said.
No dollar amounts, final eligibility criteria or an implementation timetable were finalized during the discussion. Trustees said those details will be included in the full packet sent to all members ahead of the next meeting.
The trustees also agreed to present the finalized scholarship policy and the completed investment-committee procedures at the next meeting for separate votes.
Less-critical meeting items heard in the trustees report included an update that some internal communications had led to a delay in distributing the scholarships this year and that the director planned to work with Cornerstone to ensure the program is on track for the year.
Ending: The trustees tabled action on the scholarship policy pending full-board review and completion of investment-committee procedures; Cornerstone will be asked for recommendations once the committee charter is finalized.
