The Historic Preservation Commission continued an application to install ground-mounted heat pumps on the east and west elevations of a building at 15 West Third Avenue after staff reported the applicant was not present and additional materials were needed.
Staff told the commission the proposed heat pumps measure roughly 28 inches by 37 inches by 14 inches and that an updated site drawing provided by the applicant shows a walkable path around the units would remain if properly sited. The applicant previously explained a single combined unit was not feasible because of size and control needs, and that rooftop installation was a potential alternate location but would be more difficult to conceal.
Staff recommended screening elements be added to block mechanical equipment from view from the right-of-way, pointed to the Victorian Village guidelines and city code 31 16.13 on site improvements, and asked the applicant to clarify how the units would affect egress and sidewalk clearance. Commissioners agreed to continue the application to give the applicant time to provide final drawings, proposed screening, and documentation of any building- or zoning-department coordination.
The motion to continue was made in the absence of the applicant; staff will notify the applicant of documentation needed for the next hearing.
