Broward school board discusses priority reassignment after Broward Estates repurposing; superintendent to include choice boundary area in 2026-27 boundary plan

Vice Chair Sarah Leonardi asked the School Board of Broward County on Monday whether the district’s updated school-choice policy prevents giving priority reassignment to students displaced by the repurposing of Broward Estates.

"It's my understanding though that at least one of our schools that I can think of does give priority seats to a geographical area," Vice Chair Sarah Leonardi said, asking whether the board needed to act after the district’s recent policy changes.

District staff responded that priority or prescribed choice areas typically are established through the boundary process.
