The Budget and Finance Committee on March 12 voted to forward to the full Board a resolution approving Modification No. 3 to a lease between the United States of America and the City and County of San Francisco, extending the FBI’s office lease at the International Terminal through Jan. 3, 2028, and increasing annual rent to $962,018.
The airport presented the modification as a three-year extension with total rent revenue of about $2.9 million over the extension term. "Modification number 3 will extend the term by 3 years through 01/03/2028 and increase the annual rent from $665,489 to $962,018," said Kathy Weidner of the San Francisco International Airport during the committee meeting.
Why it matters: the airport described the FBI’s on-site presence as a "critical security function for airport safety and security," and the extension was framed as an interim step while the airport constructs a new connector building expected to be completed in 2028 that may provide a more permanent location for federal agencies.
The Budget and Legislative Analyst summarized components of the rent and recommended approval. "It includes space rent, as well as reimbursing the airport for maintenance, and janitorial services and utility costs that are provided to that space," said Nick Menard of the Budget and Legislative Analyst office.
No members of the public spoke on the item. Supervisor Connie Chan moved to forward the resolution to the full Board with a recommendation; the committee recorded a roll-call vote of Dorsey — aye; Engadio — aye; Chan — aye. The motion passed 3-0.
The item will return on the Board of Supervisors agenda on March 18 unless otherwise stated.
