Committee reappointments heard for sales-tax oversight panel and African American affairs commission; votes scheduled

The Tulsa Public Works Committee on a weekday afternoon heard two reappointment interviews and set council votes for later meetings.

Steve King appeared to request reappointment to the Sales Tax Overview Committee, a position with a term that expires Dec. 31, 2028. King told the committee he has lived in District 8 for roughly 25 years and joined the committee to understand how city government operates. “Some days it’s frustrating, but overall, it’s a good process. And I’d like to continue because it does have value to the city,” King said.

The committee also interviewed Geneva Stuckey for reappointment to the Greater Tulsa Area African American Affairs Commission; her term is listed as expiring May 1, 2028. Stuckey said she has lived in Tulsa about six and a half years and described her background in education, finance and nonprofit work. She said she chairs the commission’s education committee and described initiatives on chronic absenteeism, reading literacy and a resource guide for parents. “The work that we are doing is really crucial and critical,” Stuckey said.

Committee members thanked both applicants for their willingness to serve and encouraged their continuing participation. The committee chair said the council will take formal votes on the reappointments at upcoming council meetings: King’s appointment will be considered at the committee’s 5 p.m. meeting on March 26, and Stuckey’s at the same March 26 meeting. Candidates were invited but not required to attend those council sessions.

Because the committee only conducted interviews and did not take a final vote, the formal appointment outcomes will appear on the council agenda on the dates noted above.
