Journey with AUS: airport shows progress on West Infill, new yellow garage and concourse design

Lynn Espruk, Airport Deputy Chief of Development, presented a high-level map of Journey with AUS projects and an update on construction milestones across multiple sites.
Espruk said West Infill waterproofing is nearly complete and glass installation has started on the first and second squares; interior work on the baggage system is underway. The Westgate expansion has begun exterior framing and roof decking, and the team is planning a groundbreaking for the atrium infill in April.
Espruk said the new yellow parking garage has had a recent groundbreaking and showed renderings and site plans explaining pedestrian connections: a walkway will connect the yellow garage to the existing blue garage and from there to the new arrivals and departures hall; that connector is intended for passengers and is separate from vehicle traffic. She said the connector between the blue garage and the new arrivals/departure hall will be climate controlled while the garage-to-garage walkway will be open air.
Espruk also reviewed airfield projects, including ongoing midfield cross-taxiway construction and temporary aircraft parking (apron/ramp) expansions to maintain operations during construction. She said the South Terminal closure is currently planned roughly a year from now, timed to when midfield taxiway work reaches that area, and that airlines currently operating from the South Terminal (Frontier and Allegiant) will be moved into the existing terminal when the South Terminal closes.
Espruk announced an outreach event, “Runways to Opportunities,” targeted to prime contractors and subcontractors on April 22, 9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at the Texas Computer Education Association (address given in slides). The outreach will let primes explain subcontracting needs to attending subs. Staff said save-the-dates will be sent later this week or early next week.
Commissioners asked about the length and conditioning of garage connectors, the planned timeline for the South Terminal closure, and which carriers operate from the South Terminal; staff answered in the meeting.
