RTA ridership up; agency approves solar PV design-build and orders five hydrogen buses, council informed

Council Member Sheridan, who represents Lake Elsinore on the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) board, reported that RTA ridership for January was up 11.9% compared with January of the prior year, and fiscal-year-to-date ridership for 2025 is nearly 9% higher than the previous year.
Sheridan said the RTA board awarded a design-build agreement to Motive Energy Storage Systems for solar photovoltaic systems at both the Riverside and Hemet RTA facilities. He said the solar installations are intended to reduce operating costs by supporting the electric grid.
The RTA board also agreed to purchase five 40-foot hydrogen fuel-cell buses; Sheridan said those buses should arrive in the next couple of years. Sheridan also reported a presentation from a representative of the Braille Institute about a readable font designed for people with vision impairments and encouraged interested residents to view the RTA meeting recording on the agency website for details.
