Sunset public works readies crosswalk LEDs and begins water meter replacements

Public Works Director Monroe told the council on Feb. 4 that base foundations for new Hawk crosswalk warning lights have been installed and the city will soon receive two additional LED pedestrian crossing units to deploy where they are most needed.
Monroe said the city will review school and crosswalk locations and suggested some likely placements near the junior high and along streets that lead to the new school site; one street referenced for possible placement was the 2525 block that leads to the front of the school. The police chief and public works staff agreed to drive potential locations and supply final recommendations to council.
Monroe also said the city has contracted a company to replace water meters that are not reading correctly; the company will train staff (Chrissy and Nicole) on the new system in March. He said crews will replace meters systematically and that most replacements take about five to ten minutes; residents should not expect extended water shutoffs except in rare cases.
No formal council action was taken; councilmembers asked staff to evaluate crosswalk placement with safety needs and school boundaries in mind and to return with a recommendation.
