Town public-works staff reported a major water-service repair and outlined next steps to resolve a persistent tank pressure problem at the Jan. 15 council meeting.
Public-works personnel said a meter stand failed after electrolysis damaged a copper stand that was mounted directly to the water main. The failure required replacing the stand and remounting the meter; staff warned other meter installations should be inspected and the town will check whether similar set-ups exist.
Public works also described troubleshooting of the town’s storage tank and distribution pressures. The contractor (Barton, installer of the system) is being asked to return to review diaphragm and valve settings; staff said incoming spring pressure was measured at about 100 psi while the tank output sat near 60 psi. Staff told the council they will consider draining and refilling the tank and will attempt to use an existing 6-inch flush outlet rather than installing a hydrant to resolve water-quality and flow issues.
Public-works staff said they used inmate crews to clear weeds, flagpole repairs, and cemetery leveling; crews will return for additional cleanup as weather allows. Staff also outlined a proposal to build a covered salt-storage structure (carport-style) to protect sand and salt and discussed bids for a 12–16-foot structure that would facilitate winter responses.
Council members asked staff to seek vendor estimates for pump and gate motors, check CenturyLink/Centricom service issues at the shop, and confirm whether the motor on a shop bay door needs repair or a replacement sensor. Staff said they will coordinate on ladder access for the fix and pursue bids for a carport or salt shed.
