Sigurd council approves December bills, appoints fire leaders and OKs EMT test reimbursement

The Sigurd Town Council on Jan. 15 approved a slate of routine financial and personnel actions, including December bill payments, the retention of the town’s fire chief and the appointment of an assistant fire chief, and reimbursement of an emergency medical technician exam fee.
Council members moved and seconded approval of the town minutes from the Dec. 17 meeting and the bills for December. The council then addressed fire department personnel: a motion to retain Mike Crane as fire chief carried, and the council approved the appointment of Hiram Smith as assistant fire chief. The council also approved reimbursement of $104 for an EMT exam taken by volunteer firefighter Antonio Ortiz. The meeting closed after routine reports and a motion to adjourn.
The council handled the votes in open session; recorded roll-call and voice votes were used for each motion. Minutes and meeting recordings will be posted and maintained according to state open-meetings rules discussed earlier in the meeting.
Less-critical business at the meeting included discussion of meter and street-lighting details on the monthly bills, unclaimed checks, and bookkeeping clarifications from town staff.
The council did not take final action on capital projects discussed elsewhere in the meeting; those items remain at the discussion or planning stage.
