Douglas County appoints members to Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; MPO seat reassigned

The Board of Douglas County Commissioners approved two appointments to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and approved several routine consent items at its Jan. 29 meeting.
Commissioner Willie moved to appoint Doris Ricks to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; the board approved the motion 5-0. The board then moved to appoint Timothy Shoulderblade to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; that nomination also passed 5-0.
Separately, commissioners agreed to reassign the county's Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) seat to Commissioner Dorsey. Commissioners Patrick Kelly and Shannon Reid confirmed they will continue their current board assignments: Kelly asked to remain on the Economic Development Council (EDC) and on the local workforce board; Reid said she will remain on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and suggested assigning an entrepreneurial-community seat to a rural-based commissioner.
The consent agenda (items 1.1 through 1.7) was approved by unanimous vote earlier in the meeting (5-0).
Why it matters: Appointments to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council affect local coordination of criminal justice services and programs. MPO representation concerns regional transportation planning and the county's role in interjurisdictional transportation decisions.
