MTSU counsel reports 100 public-records requests in 2024; 60 responded or approved

James Floyd, university counsel, told the Audit and Compliance Committee that Middle Tennessee State University received 100 public-records requests during calendar year 2024 and that the office "responded to or approved and responded to 60 of those requests," according to committee materials behind tab 5. Floyd said this represented an increase compared with 2023: "Compared to the previous year of 2023, that was an increase of 15 records reviewed," he said.
A trustee asked for an example of items placed in the committee materials' "miscellaneous" category. Floyd said the category can include requests for items such as graduation-rate reports when a request does not fall cleanly into another predefined category.
The presentation was informational; trustees did not take formal action on public-records compliance at the meeting. The university counsel's report appears in the committee materials on page 15.
