MTSU reports nine conflicts of interest in 2024; president's 2025 disclosure consistent with prior filings

Drew Harpoo, associate vice president for business and finance, told the Board of Trustees Audit and Compliance Committee that Middle Tennessee State University recorded nine conflicts of interest in calendar year 2024, up from eight in 2023. "In 2024, we had 9 conflicts of interest, up from 8 in 2023," Harpoo said while presenting the annual summary behind tab 2 of the committee materials.
The committee then considered President Dr. McPhee's disclosure form for 2025. Leah Ladley, chief audit executive, explained that "MTSU's Policy 12 for conflict of interest requires that the president's disclosure form be evaluated by the board of trustees or a duly appointed committee" and that the audit and compliance committee assists the board with that annual evaluation. Ladley told trustees the president's 2025 disclosure was consistent with prior disclosures and is a public record available on the Tennessee Ethics Commission website. "The annual disclosures presented in your materials are consistent with prior disclosures and they are a public record on the Tennessee Ethics Commission website," she said.
Trustees asked no further questions on the conflict disclosures. The presentation was informational; no committee action was taken on the disclosures during the meeting.
