City staff reports on Needmore deck, Veterans Park plantings and Greer Golf tree project; one board vacancy remains

City staff reported several small capital and volunteer projects at the March 2025 Greer City Council meeting, including completion of a deck at the Needmore Community Center, a patriotic planting at Veterans Park and volunteer-driven tree plantings at Greer Golf.
Why it matters: These projects affect park and recreation access and neighborhood aesthetics; the tree plantings were the result of public–private partnerships and volunteer labor.
City staff said the deck at the Needmore Community Center is complete and available for outdoor activities. Staff also described a planting of about 60 red, white and blue azaleas at Veterans Park as a patriotic installation. The city reported a partnership with Clemson University’s "TD’s for Trees" program, Trees Upstate and Schneider Tree Care and volunteers from the Centennial Lions Club and Gap Creek Club to plant 21 trees at the Greer Golf entrance and along the course.
Staff also noted a local chef who appeared on a national television competition and encouraged residents to sample the restaurant at Greer Golf.
On appointments, the council was informed of an open seat on the Board of Zoning Appeals for District 3 after an effective resignation; staff said no candidate was available for nomination at the meeting.
Ending: Staff said they will continue outreach and bring appointment candidates forward when available; parks and recreation projects will remain open to the public per normal schedules.
