Orange County names new and reappointed advisory-board members; Board of Equalization alternates shuffled

The Board of Commissioners made several appointments and reappointments to advisory boards during the March 11 work session, filling geographic vacancies and adjusting alternate memberships.

Appointments and reappointments recorded during the session included: reappointments and appointments to the Planning Board (including at-large appointment of Jonah Garson); reappointments to the Historic Preservation Commission; nominations to the Board of Equalization and Review with two sitting members shifted to alternate status to broaden participation; candidate appointments to Parks & Recreation Council geographic vacancies; and an at-large appointment to the Orange County Housing Authority.

The board discussed balancing continuity and bringing new perspectives to volunteer panels, noting term limits and statutory constraints vary by board. For example, the Board of Equalization and Review operates under a two-year term structure without a local term limit; other advisory boards follow the county's advisory-board policies, which typically limit continuous service to two consecutive terms before a break is required. Commissioners indicated they prefer to avoid doubling appointees across multiple boards when possible to widen participation.
