Moab travel advisory board votes to align name with Moab Office of Tourism, adopts ‘Moab Tourism Advisory Board’

The Moab Area Travel Council advisory board voted unanimously on March 11 to adopt the name Moab Tourism Advisory Board, or MTAB, aligning the advisory body’s public identity with the newly renamed Moab Office of Tourism.

Chair Laurie McFarland opened the meeting and introduced the naming discussion, saying the change would make the advisory board more clearly linked to the tourism office. County attorney Steven Stocks advised the group that the change was not mandatory and could be handled incrementally: “As those things come up, best efforts to try to make adjustments and changes as you go along,” Stocks said, describing the practical approach to updating letterheads, contracts and other materials.

Board members discussed shorthand and acronyms, with several members noting that local usage often differs from official names. Alex (last name on file) moved to adopt the Moab Tourism Advisory Board name and Ashley Korglott seconded; the chair called the question and announced the motion carried unanimously.

Why it matters: Board members and staff said the rename is intended to reduce public confusion and better reflect the advisory relationship with the county’s tourism office. Stocks cautioned that formal bylaw edits are optional and can be bundled with other bylaw updates rather than changed for a single item.

The board instructed staff to proceed with the name change in practical materials (communications, letterhead, brochures) and to flag any formal bylaw changes for future action.
