The Minnesota House Education Policy Committee on March 11 adopted a DE3 author's amendment to House File 1418 and laid the bill over for possible inclusion in an omnibus package or later consideration. The bill would make operational changes to the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB), transfer certain grant programs to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), and provide modest operational funding for continued work on alternative licensure pathways.
Representative Hill, the author, said the bill supports PELSB’s operations and helps the agency process and issue teaching licenses more efficiently. PELSB Executive Director Dr. Elena Bailey told the committee that PELSB issues tens of thousands of licenses annually, licenses approximately 10,000 teachers statewide, accredits 38 teacher-preparation providers that operate nearly 700 programs, and…
