The Modesto City Council on March 11 approved awarding a construction contract to Platinum General Engineering LLC of Waterford, California, not to exceed $574,492, to install three prefabricated restrooms purchased by the city for Cresseida, Mark Twain and Robertson Road parks.
Public Works staff said the restrooms were purchased about a year earlier and are now completed; the contract covers installation. During public comment several residents asked whether the new restrooms would be unlocked and available to the public. Toby Wells of Public Works said the designs are intended to be open during park hours.
Councilmember Williams and other councilmembers voiced support for the upgraded designs and noted staff had considered features to reduce safety and misuse concerns. A resident raised questions about homeless use and maintenance; staff said the facilities will be open during park hours, and the parks department will manage maintenance and graffiti abatement per standard practice.
Councilmember Williams moved and Councilmember Scudia Brayton seconded approval. The roll call vote was unanimous and the contract award was authorized; the motion included a $52,226 contingency for a total not to exceed $574,492 and authorization for the city manager or designee to execute the agreement.
The contract covers site installation of three prefabricated restroom units previously procured; staff did not provide a construction schedule in the council presentation.
