Runway 826 bids exceed engineer estimate; commission tables action pending HNTB review

Suzanne said the bid opening occurred the same day as the meeting; because HNTB (the airport engineer) needed time to examine the bid tabulation and payment contingencies, staff recommended tabling the item until the next meeting. If HNTB recommends, the city may reject all bids and rebid the project or attempt to renegotiate with the low bidder, subject to FAA and state funding constraints.
The commission moved and seconded a motion to table the matter to a date determined by staff so HNTB can complete its review. Commissioners were advised that rejecting and rebidding the project is a likely outcome, but staff will return with HNTB’s analysis and recommendations.
