Commission approves RFQ to design Sand Creek bike-path extension under federal carbon-reduction grant

The commission authorized staff to issue a request for qualifications to select an engineering firm to design a bicycle-path extension that will close a gap on the Sand Creek trail between the dam and Southwest 14th Street. The project will proceed under a federal carbon-reduction grant administered through the state; staff said the state is finalizing the grant agreement and is comfortable with the city moving forward with consultant selection.
Suzanne reminded commissioners that in January they had approved pursuing the grant and that the next step was the competitive qualifications selection under the state’s grama process. Staff intends to form a review committee, select a consultant, and return to the commission for approval of the contract once the grant agreement is in place. Commissioners approved sending the RFQ and noted an evaluation criterion that weighted firms’ office accessibility as part of the selection process.
The RFQ step is intended to keep the project on schedule so design can proceed promptly when the grant paperwork is complete.
