Commissioner Redding Lawinger updated the public on Baltimore City Public Schools’ CEO search process at the March 11 board meeting, describing a three-phase timeline and public engagement plan.
Lawinger said the board is committed to an open and transparent search. The three phases are: profile development (community input to shape the next CEO profile), national recruitment using a selected search firm, and interviews and selection. He said the board released an RFP and will spend March reviewing proposals. He said the committee will vet proposals, interview firms as needed, and select a single firm in April. The full board is expected to vote on a contract with the selected firm in either April or May, which will then formally kick off recruitment.
Lawinger said the board has retained a communications firm to support a consistent public-facing process and provided a dedicated email for public questions and input: ceosearchbcps@k12.md.us. He told commissioners the search will include community engagement events and stakeholder input sessions and emphasized the board’s aim to begin a thoughtful transition that aligns with the outgoing CEO’s timeline (transitioning in mid-2026).
Ending
Lawinger said staff will continue to share updates and that the board will provide more detailed next steps in April once a search partner is selected.
