Commission approves interlocal agreement with Cedar Mountain Service District for local fire mitigation projects

Kane County commissioners on March 11 approved an interlocal memorandum of understanding with the Cedar Mountain Service District to facilitate local wildland fire mitigation projects.
Commissioner Patty Gouvea led the item and said the agreement streamlines the process by allowing local fire districts to carry out mitigation projects without issuing a new bid each time. The county attorney drafted the document using a state template, Gouvea said, and the MOU is intended to keep mitigation funds and work within the county when appropriate.
Alan Aldridge (sheriff's office) and other staff participated in discussion. Commissioners said delegating projects to local districts will help address wildland-urban interface risks and keep funds in local budgets. The motion to adopt the interlocal agreement passed unanimously.
Commissioners noted earlier approval in October of a general contract that can accommodate entities such as Kanab City and Big Water if they later opt into similar agreements.
