Glendora trustees recognize Friends Foundation for more than $2 million in support

At the meeting, Library Services Manager Donna Dukes noted the Friends Foundation "was founded, over 30 years ago and has donated well over $2,000,000 to the Glendora community through the library." Dukes invited Maggie Lara, executive director of the Friends Foundation, to speak.
"What began in 1964 with a group of friends raising money through book sales ... has transformed into the Friends Foundation," Lara said, describing the group's history and its role in providing seed money for services such as a computer center. Lara said the foundation, led by president Pam Richards and volunteers, funded more than $108,000 in grants the library requested for services and programs this year.
Trustees offered remarks of thanks. Trustee Deborah Hall said she was "amazed how many people were in that room" at a recent Friends meeting and praised their dedication to literacy. Vice President Vogel and Trustee Long also commented on the foundation's work and the library's summer and community programming supported by the group.
The board also noted upcoming Friends Foundation events, including a volunteer luncheon and an annual campaign that aims for full participation by Dec. 31 to strengthen grant applications. The trustees and staff encouraged residents to look for Friends-sponsored programming and donor events at community gatherings such as the holiday stroll.
No formal action or spending decisions were made during the recognition segment; the item was presented as a ceremonial acknowledgment and a report of recent and planned activities by the Friends Foundation.
Looking ahead, trustees said the board and staff will continue coordinating with the Friends Foundation on program development and fundraising activities.
