County staff ask Fallbrook schools to join LiveWell San Diego partnership

Edminia Ramirez, a chief in the County of San DiegoDepartment of Strategy and Community Engagement, briefed the board on LiveWell San Diego and asked the district to advance a resolution to become a recognized partner.

Ramirez said the county serves more than 3 million residents and that Fallbrook, as an unincorporated area, falls under county jurisdiction. She described LiveWell San Diego as a county-led vision aligning local government, nonprofits, businesses, schools and community groups to promote health, safety and thriving communities.

Why it matters: Ramirez said recognition as a LiveWell partner would make county resources more directly available on campuses, including mobile health units, parent-student forums addressing behavioral health, support for absenteeism interventions, and data-driven planning tied to indicators the county tracks.

Ramirez outlined how the county supports schools: advising on wellness policies, coordinating on-campus health fairs, providing the LiveWell mobile unit for outreach, hosting "What I Wish My Parents Knew" forums to connect families to behavioral health resources, and offering regional leadership-team meetings for networking. She said most San Diego school districts are already part of the LiveWell network and that the next step for the district would be adopting a recognition resolution.

Ramirez credited local superintendent Dr. Luna for working with the county and said the county would serve as a backbone to align services across sectors. No board vote or action was recorded on the request during the presentation.
