Board declines NSBA connection fee for 2025–26, citing shifting national landscape

The board voted unanimously to decline payment of the National School Boards Association (NSBA) connection fee for the 2025–26 year.
Trustee Art led a discussion noting many state associations and districts have withdrawn from NSBA amid organizational changes and that declining membership reduces the national association’s resources and services. Several trustees said they expect the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) to be the primary state advocate on federal and state education policy if the district does not pay NSBA fees.
Board members acknowledged the district can still send representatives to NSBA events as nonmembers (at a higher registration cost) and debated whether the connection fee provides sufficient value for the district. After discussion, a motion to not approve the NSBA connection program fees for 2025–26 passed 7–0.
