The Roseville City Council on May 27 approved a resolution to abate a public nuisance at 25188 Packard Street.
City staff said the property owner is elderly and that family members who moved into the home left it in a severely neglected condition. “We were asking for adoption of the resolution, but it's our intent to hold off on filing any of the nuisance abatement lawsuit in the circuit court until we come to a final determination as to how we can resolve it,” city staff member Mister Thomas said during the meeting.
City building officials told council the structure may be potentially rehabilitable. Staff said they have been in contact with the owner, who is reportedly in talks to sell the property. The city described possibilities that include a demolition-and-lien agreement or filing a nuisance-abatement suit in circuit court if other resolutions are not reached.
Councilman Leticia moved to adopt the resolution and Councilwoman McCartney supported the motion. The council voted to approve the resolution by voice vote. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The council did not direct immediate court action and indicated staff would continue negotiations with the owner before determining whether to proceed with litigation or other enforcement steps.
