Connector finishing, builders' risk insurance and stadium/high school renovations prompt parking warnings during construction

District facilities staff updated the board on three construction items at a June work session: nearing completion of the Falcon Connector, builders' risk insurance for multiple projects and planned stadium and high-school renovations that will reduce on-site parking.
Staff said the Falcon Connector project is essentially complete but requires a few change orders totaling just under $6,000 for finishing items (stainless steel access panels for bathrooms and additional cabinetry for classrooms used by two teachers). The administration said it will ask the board to ratify those change orders at the upcoming meeting.
Because the original builders' risk policy for the connector expires the day of the work session, facilities staff requested an extension of coverage to August to remain covered while finishing work continues. For the larger high school and stadium renovations, staff recommended separate builders' risk policies: Travelers for the high school and Liberty Mutual for the stadium, based on quotes obtained by the district's insurance agent.
Facilities staff warned the board that laydown areas for materials, trailers and contractor parking will consume multiple parking areas during construction. The district will use a temporary parking lot behind the middle school for staff and said portions of the lot between the tennis courts and the gym will be unavailable while the connector work finishes. The stadium laydown will occupy grassy areas and some north-side parking near utility easements. Staff said this will create challenges for large events and suggested groups planning fall events should prepare a plan B; the administration also said some community groups may need to absorb extra costs for parking management or consider alternate venues.
Administration said the district will notify event organizers and the community about parking limitations and will consider carpool messaging and other mitigation steps as construction continues.
