Kenner council approves $90,700 change order for City Hall demolition

The Kenner City Council on June 5 approved Change Order No. 1 to the demolition contract for Kenner City Hall, increasing the agreement with Pipe Works Plumbing and Demolition LLC by $90,700 and adding 10 working days.
City staff (public works representative Mr. Gonzales) told the council that during demolition of Building A contractors encountered two different, unanticipated foundation plate levels. To properly expose piles the contractor had to remove additional concrete and excavate deeper than planned; the work also required additional sand to backfill the lower elevation. In addition, demolition revealed an old sewer/septic system that required removal. Those three issues—deeper foundation work, extra backfill and removal of a septic system—generated the change order amount.
The change order raises the contract total to $557,030 for the City Hall Building and Annex Building B demolition project (AE project no. 20‑22037B). Council approved the amendment by unanimous voice vote, 7–0, as recorded in the transcript.
