The United Nations on June 12 issued a statement expressing condolences after an Air India plane crash near Ahmedabad, Gujarat that the spokesperson said claimed the lives of more than 200 people.
Farhan read a statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary‑General saying, in part, that the Secretary‑General “is deeply saddened by the news of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on the June 12, which claimed the lives of more than 200 people aboard.” The statement extended “heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of India, as well as to all countries whose citizens were affected,” and wished a “swift and full recovery to those who were injured.”
Farhan also said the Secretariat expected a fuller statement from the Secretary‑General to be issued later.
