Sheriff’s Search and Rescue honored for 50 years of volunteer service

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on June 10 presented a proclamation honoring the 50th anniversary of the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Search and Rescue team.
Assistant Sheriff Jose Beltran introduced the team and thanked volunteers for ‘‘answering the calls for service at all hours’’ and for assisting during emergencies. Team leader Walter Eichinger described the all‑volunteer organization — roughly 200 members from a range of backgrounds — and recognized two long‑serving volunteers: Jeff Ternan (46 years) and Chris Young (43 years).
Supervisor remarks thanked the team for unpaid service during disasters and traumatic incidents and invited members to the dais for a photo.
Why it matters: The volunteer search and rescue team assists county and regional emergency services in high‑risk operations, augmenting professional responders and supporting families at moments of crisis.
