The Parks and Culture Committee approved a land swap with the Village of Greendale that would transfer approximately 21 acres of county-managed Dale Creek park space in downtown Greendale to the village and, in exchange, transfer a wooded natural area (Grudemont Woods) into county ownership.
County staff said Dale Creek park and the creek bed have long been maintained by the village under a lease, but parts of the creek bed remained under county jurisdiction, creating operational friction. The swap would consolidate downtown creek stewardship under local control and bring a larger natural preserve under county management, where it will be maintained as an undeveloped woodland with trail access.
Terms and safeguards
County staff said both parties would record quitclaim deeds and restrictive covenants requiring the parcels to remain parkland with no commercial development and prohibiting cellphone towers and similar uses; the committee approved the swap unanimously. Greendale officials and county staff said the trade aims to align resources and allow each entity to invest more effectively in the parcels they control.
