Board proclaims June Pride Month; county departments highlight library, health and youth work

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on June 10 proclaimed June 2025 as Pride Month and heard presentations from county library staff, health‑department organizers and community partners describing monthlong programming and ongoing services for LGBTQIA+ residents.
Supervisor Ken Carlson, who introduced the proclamation, framed the recognition as a renewal of support for LGBTQIA+ residents and allies and highlighted local groups such as the Rainbow Community Center, PFLAG, the RISE Center and Clayton Pride.
Library staff described Pride programming at branches across the county, with button‑making, family storytelling and themed makerspace events scheduled through the month. Adrienne Safranco, coordinator of the county health department’s Pride initiative, reported that the county’s cross‑departmental Pride initiative has trained hundreds of staff and partners and that the health department provides regular training for hospital staff and community collaborators.
Dr. Steven Field, medical director for behavioral health, described the county’s Youth Crisis Stabilization Unit and said affirming, trauma‑informed care is critical to better mental‑health outcomes for LGBTQIA+ youth. Representatives from Rainbow Community Center, Clayton Pride and the county’s Youth Action Board spoke in support of increased outreach and culturally competent services.
The board adopted the proclamation unanimously and invited community partners to the dais for recognition and photographs.
