District to seek board approval for assessment renewals, $75,000 PA planning grant and SREB math support

Dr. Draper, speaking for curriculum and instruction, told the board the department will ask at the district's June voting meeting to approve several routine and new academic items.
"The first item we'd like to present for approval are our annual assessment license renewals," Dr. Draper said, listing assessments including STAR, Acadience and HighScope/IXL (as presented). He said a Nearpod renewal for 2025-26 is still being finalized and will be presented once a quote is complete.
Dr. Draper said the district has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for a PA Smart planning grant in the amount of $75,000 to integrate STEM across curriculum. "Nancy Caraprice has been working with our librarians and some of our building principals on the PA Smart planning grant," Dr. Draper said.
Curriculum staff also said they will request approval of the 2025-26 consolidated application for Title programs (Titles I, II, III and IV), noting that allocations have not yet been released. "At this point in time, they have not released our allocations as of yet," Dr. Draper said.
Dr. Draper described a proposed contract with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to support K-12 mathematics instruction. He said SREB would give a keynote for elementary and secondary teachers and would focus initial professional development and coaching in a district middle school designated for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI). Dr. Draper said the SREB contract would be paid using the district's Ready to Learn grant.
Other items that will be on the June 24 voting agenda include a field trip request for a ninth-grade student, Charbel Bulloz, who will compete in a national championship June 15'19, a renewal of the district's Eduplanet21 online curriculum platform, and an end-of-year data presentation on STAR, IXL and Acadience assessments.
Dr. Draper and curriculum staff did not provide final dollar totals for the assessment renewals or for the SREB contract during the presentation; Dr. Draper said near-final figures will be provided for the voting meeting.
The board did not take any final votes during the informational presentation at this meeting; these items were presented for approval at the June voting meeting.
