Planning commission elects chair, recognizes long-serving staffer and reviews building permit report

Chairwoman Seim (speaking in the organizational portion) described Mingo’s institutional knowledge and contribution to city planning and presented formal thanks on behalf of the commission. Mingo responded that it had been an honor to serve and noted, "in 31 years there's been about a billion dollars' worth of public and private investment in this town," remarks commissioners received as a reflection on the city’s growth during his tenure.
Staff provided the building-permit report for May, which staff described as "looking pretty strong" and showing a healthy valuation for 2025. Commissioners were told the permit report format was the same as the prior month and that an updated report would be circulated once meeting-date changes had been reconciled. City Commissioner Bridget Benson was announced as the City Commission liaison to the Planning Commission; staff said an orientation for new commissioners and the liaison is planned for the week of the 16th.
Formal action: A motion to elect Commissioner Seim as chair and Commissioner Peterson as vice chair carried on a unanimous roll call. A motion to adjourn was later carried. No additional regulatory or land-use decisions were made during the organizational portion beyond the administrative elections and recognition.
Next steps: Staff will schedule the orientation for new commissioners and the City Commission liaison; the building-permit report will be updated and distributed with the next meeting packet.
