PINE‑RICHLAND, Pa. — At its June 2 Academic Achievement Governance meeting, Pine‑Richland School District staff presented recommendations from a mini program review of health and physical education and heard a student presentation on social media’s effects on teen mental health.
The review team proposed a revised vision organized around four pillars — Movement, Activity and Fitness; Nutrition and Hydration; Mental Health; and Sleep and Recovery — and offered grade‑span recommendations for integrating health concepts into physical education, expanding elective options, strengthening adapted physical education and developing consistent, individualized goal‑setting for students.
The recommendations come after a yearlong “mini review” that district leaders described as a follow‑up to a full program review completed previously. The district said the mini review focused on how earlier recommendations had been implemented and where targeted, practical changes would have the greatest impact across kindergarten through 12th grade.
Student presentation and proposed campaign
Katie Wanner, introduced as a recent graduate who will attend the University of Pittsburgh, delivered a short research‑based presentation on social media and adolescent mental health.
