Grand Prairie begins restoration and relocation of Liberty Bell on City Hall campus

Mayor Ron Jensen announced that Grand Prairie’s Liberty Bell was removed last month for restoration and will be reinstalled a short distance from its original location on the City Hall campus.
The mayor said the project will restore the bell’s wooden yoke, hardware and other components and that the bell will be reinstalled under a new shade structure with the original plaques displayed nearby. The city provided a project page at gptx.org/libertybell for updates and progress reports.
The mayor framed the restoration as an update to preserve the bell as a community symbol: “For 50 years, Grand Prairie's Liberty Bell has also been a symbol of unity in the community and now, the bell is getting a refresh,” he said.
No funding amounts, contractor names or a timeline to completion were provided in the mayor’s remarks.
