The Clinton City Council on May 27 recognized two Clinton Fire Department members promoted from the department's certified promotional list.
Chief McQuiston introduced the promotions and said the department presented Darren Farrell for promotion to lieutenant and Chandler Sterk for promotion to engineer.
The promotions were described as recognition of the officers' dedication and service. According to the department statement read aloud at the meeting, Farrell began his career with the department on Oct. 24, 2017, and was previously promoted to engineer on Sept. 15, 2020. Sterk began his career with the department on May 4, 2020.
Both officers took the oath of office at the meeting. Farrell recited: "To serve the citizens of the city of Clinton. With compassion, courage, and integrity. To preserve life and property." Sterk repeated a similar oath when sworn in as engineer.
Family members participated in the pinning ceremonies: Farrell's girlfriend, Cassie, performed the pinning for Farrell; Sterk's girlfriend, Paige, performed the pinning for Sterk. Mayor and council members joined in congratulating the two newly promoted officers.
The recognitions were ceremonial and did not require additional council action beyond the public acknowledgment at the meeting.
