The Haysville Board of Education voted 6-0 during a special Zoom meeting to approve “offer number 9” that had been presented to the district’s bargaining unit on May 16.
Board member Bain moved to approve the package and Board member Kelly seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Kelly, Barb, Greg, Jeremy, Tasha and Jennifer recorded as voting yes.
The board discussed the package following multiple executive-session breaks earlier in the meeting. Board members invited district administrators Jeff Hurst, Jillian Macias and Craig Ryan into the executive sessions before returning to the public meeting to make and vote on the motion.
According to the summary read into the record by board leadership, the tentative package keeps the district’s 2022–23 salary schedule in place and contains several components the board estimated would total about $1,300,000 and equal 5.1 percent overall. The board’s itemized estimates were: a vertical step increase estimated at $546,000; a horizontal education movement estimated at $212,990; supplemental pay items estimated at $89,318; a first-year adjustment to a salary freeze estimated at $336,000; a one-time $1,200 bonus for staff new to the profession and staff on step M estimated at $156,000; and a change in which staff are included in the bargaining unit to add occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, hearing specialists and communication specialists. The summary also noted inclusion of IDB for the 2024–2026 school years. The record described some amounts as “estimated” and several items as one-time payments.
The board chair read the package line by line during the motion so all members were voting on the same terms. The motion description in the meeting transcript stated the offer “does not change” the current salary schedule and listed the dollar estimates and categories above.
The board did not state in the public record whether bargaining-unit ratification or additional approvals were required to finalize the agreement; the action taken at the meeting was to approve the board-side offer (the package read into the record) that had been presented to the bargaining unit on May 16.
The meeting concluded after the roll-call vote and the board recorded the motion as a 6-0 approval of the year’s contract offer.
