Lima City Council adopts resolution honoring Lima Senior High DECA team for international win

Lima City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 5-25 on first reading Monday to honor Lima Senior High School’s DECA team for winning first place at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando on April 29, 2025.

The resolution names students Christian Ackerman, Davion Williamson and Mallory Gibson and advisors Chrissy Hood and Kalia Mosley, and it summarizes the team’s winning “sales project,” which the text of the resolution says encompassed four milestones: the Spartan Spirit Shack, a corporate sponsorship drive, a bag coffee sale and the DECA Marketplace.

Councilor Jordan moved adoption of the resolution on first reading; a second was made and the motion passed by a 7–0 roll-call vote. Council members from across the dais praised the students and their advisers, noting the students’ local visibility and encouraging them to “come back” to Lima after college.

Teachers and advisers who spoke at the meeting described the team’s two-year effort, recounted obstacles the students faced at prior competitions and said the victory reflected community support. Chrissy Hood, the team’s longtime adviser, and Kalia Mosley, a first-year co-adviser and former student of Hood’s, both addressed council. Students Christian Ackerman and Davion Williamson spoke briefly to thank supporters and describe how community participation—such as buying coffee bags and sharing posts—helped the team progress from state competition to internationals.

Council remarks emphasized local pride and the potential long-term benefits for the students. After the vote the council invited the students and advisers forward for applause and presentation of the resolution.

No funding or policy action was attached to the resolution; the text is ceremonial and expresses the city’s appreciation.
