The county’s Local Public Safety Coordinating Council (LipSick) told the Board of Commissioners on March 3 that an RFQ for a new LipSick coordinator produced a single applicant and that the council did not recommend that candidate for hire.
LipSick members said the lone applicant had relevant skills but that the council felt the application did not demonstrate grant‑management and open‑meeting/agenda experience the coordinator role requires. The council proposed Community Corrections temporarily absorb coordination duties while the county performs a time‑study to document actual workload and tasks; LipSick’s chair asked the board to consider that approach rather than immediately filling a $50,000‑a‑year coordinator slot.
The coordinator position has historically been funded in part through the Juvenile and Adult Local Public Safety (JRP) grant pool. LipSick told the board that if the time‑study shows lower administrative hours, redeploying some or all of the $50,000 to other criminal‑justice priorities could be an option.
Commissioners asked to receive LipSick’s meeting notes and a formal recommendation and asked staff to re‑send the council’s documentation. No hiring decision was made at the meeting; the board asked staff to return with the council’s minutes and a proposed plan for either advertising the position or absorbing duties into Community Corrections with documented hours and expectations.
