Advisory board reviews pickleball court rules; no immediate changes or reservation system adopted

The Keizer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviewed the rules and signage for the city’s six new pickleball courts at its March 2025 meeting and decided not to change current operations for the coming season.
Staff explained courts are labeled 1–6 and that court No. 1 was designated as a beginner court while courts 2–6 are intended for players with more experience. Robert, parks staff, told the board the signage is posted and the rules were discussed with community stakeholders when the courts opened.
Board members discussed whether the courts should be reservable for tournaments or events. Staff said the courts are not reservable now and that a reservation system would require additional staff bandwidth and planning; staff suggested implementing a reservation or event policy after ironing out operational “bugs” and only after gathering input from regular court users. Robert said reservations were possible in the future but likely not for the coming summer and added that any event would need coordination to avoid conflicts with other City events, such as Keizer Fest.
Board members reported hearing little official complaint and said they had observed largely positive usage. The board directed staff to continue monitoring use and to return to the board if complaints or new operational issues arise. No formal changes to the posted rules were made at the March meeting.
