Cumberland County mobilizes food distributions after SNAP benefits stolen from 251 households

Cheryl Goldin, director of the Cumberland County Division of Social Services, told the Board of Commissioners that a coordinated criminal operation is stealing funds from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program cards and that 251 Cumberland County households reported their March benefits were taken.
"Between the first and fifth day of the month, right around midnight...Within minutes of these funds being available on the card, the entire amount on the card is being skimmed," Goldin said. She added that up until late December victims could receive replacement benefits but "Congress did not include replacement benefits in the last continuing resolution, so anyone that has had benefits stolen after 12/21/2024 will not be getting those funds back." Goldin also said SNAP benefits distributed to residents are "100% federally funded."
