District recognizes students, alumni and staff at March board meeting

The Orangeburg County School District Board on March 11 held awards and recognitions for students, alumni and staff.
The board recognized the top winners of the district Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competition: first place Armani Francis (Ellery Elementary School), second place Ziona Carmen (Dover Elementary School) and third place Kya Gathers (St. James Gilliard Elementary School). The board also named finalists from multiple elementary schools and noted several students had been featured on WIS TV’s SOTA City Live.
The board presented an alumni spotlight to Julie Stewart, a Branchville High School graduate and attorney who also serves as a part‑time magistrate judge in Dorchester County. The board recognized Tamara Rose of Holly Hill Elementary as Rookie Teacher of the Month and Mary Higgins of Vance Providence Elementary as February Employee of the Month.
