Western Montgomery Career & Technology Center approves 2025 budget, capital purchases; Pottsgrove share rises 1.95%

The Western Montgomery Career & Technology Center joint operating committee on March 3 approved a $9,000,175.06 budget for the 2024–25 fiscal year and authorized two capital purchases, the committee reported to the Pottsgrove School District board on March 12.

According to the JOC report, the approved budget represents a 6.55% increase over the prior year. Pottsgrove’s share of the Western Center budget was listed as $1,000,006.44, an increase of approximately $31,773 (about 1.95%) compared with 2024.

The JOC also approved the purchase of a classroom security system from TWG at a total cost of $463,751, of which a grant will cover $450,000. Separately, the committee approved acquisition of a robotic welder for $132,170; $85,000 of the welder cost is expected to come from a competitive grant and $47,001.70 from budgeted equipment funds.

Why it matters: the Western Center operates across multiple sending districts and supplies career and technical education seats that local high school students use. The report said the center currently has 280 applicants for 190 seats next year, driving interest in expanding capacity. Administrative director Dave Livingood said he has convened a goals and vision committee, met with architects for a feasibility study, and will provide periodic updates to member districts.

The JOC also reported presentations and events: SkillsUSA district competitions yielded 28 awards for Western Center students, including three Pottsgrove students (two gold awards, one bronze); the two gold winners advanced to the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA state competitions. The Western Center continues to pursue grant funding to underwrite equipment and capital improvements, the report said.
