Arlington board hears BOCES trustee candidate and nominates four candidates for county BOCES seats

The Arlington Central School District Board of Education heard from candidate Bryce Holland, then approved placing four names on the ballot for the Dutchess BOCES Board of Trustees; the board will select its nominees in April.
Bryce Holland, introduced by the board to the reports and discussions portion of the meeting, described his background as an Arlington alumnus (class of 2021), a recent University of Virginia graduate and an employee of the Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet, a cross‑sector nonprofit that convenes city leaders, philanthropy and youth‑serving organizations to align cradle‑to‑career services. Holland said his self‑designed college major focused on career preparation and that he seeks the BOCES trustee role because he believes BOCES career and adult‑education programs can close opportunity gaps in Dutchess County.
Holland told the board he was nominated for a BOCES trustee seat by the Poughkeepsie City School District board on March 5 and that he would welcome the board’s nomination. Board members asked him to describe the Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet’s mission and his professional work; he said the Cabinet is a 501(c)(3) whose board chairs include a local superintendent and the mayor, and that the organization aligns early childhood and out‑of‑school time efforts with education and community partners.
During new business the board approved a motion to add four names to the slate for the county BOCES trustee ballot: Bryce Holland, Ralph Cumento, Gully Stanford and Mark Fleischauer. The board did not finalize the district’s votes for the three trustee seats at this meeting; administrators said that vote will occur at the April meeting when board members will select up to three candidates from the slate to endorse.
"I am a proud native of the city of Poughkeepsie and a proud alumnus of the Arlington Central School District," Holland said. He framed his candidacy as a commitment to career and technical programs and to expanding opportunities for students with diverse learning needs.
The board voted to place the four names on the BOCES ballot by voice vote; a final board vote on which three to endorse is scheduled for the April meeting.
