The School City of East Chicago board voted unanimously March 11 to approve an updated E‑Rate wide‑area internet agreement after the district’s counsel reported successful negotiations removed an arbitration requirement and improved termination provisions.
Attorney Drew Harris told trustees the district had requested changes and received agreement from the vendor’s attorney: “The primary change was to remove the arbitration requirement,” Harris said, adding that other timing and notice provisions were revised to be more favorable to the district. He recommended approval of the version presented to the board.
Trustee Joel Rodriguez made the motion to approve item 5.03; Trustee Diane Smith seconded. The roll call vote was 5‑0 in favor.
Board members confirmed the changes had been negotiated with the vendor’s counsel and that the current document reflected the agreed‑upon revisions. No further substantive debate occurred at the meeting.
