Brownsburg PD recognizes staff for investigative support, highlights new analysts and upgraded statistics system

The Brownsburg Police Commission on March 11 recognized department staff for investigative and analytic work, acknowledged officers and support staff who responded to a large March incident, and described new analytical and reporting capabilities the department has added.
Major Andy Watts told commissioners that the Hendricks County Prosecutor’s Office named Brownsburg CSI Todd Knowles its investigative support personnel of the year; Watts noted Knowles’ prior service with the Plainfield Police Department and said the county’s recognition validated the department’s selection and training of staff.
Watts also acknowledged responders to a large-scale incident in March. He said the investigation remains active and that he would not discuss details on the record, but he read prepared remarks praising uniform officers, investigative staff, front-office personnel and chaplains for the hours worked and for supporting officers and families during the response.
Commissioners heard that the department has revamped its statistical reporting and data system to better capture officer involvement across uniform and investigative services. Lieutenant Debonette and Captain Clare led work since mid- to late-2024 to compile data that department staff can now generate more quickly for meetings and staffing analysis.
The department has also added two civilian intelligence analysts over the past two years. Major Watts highlighted criminal intelligence analyst Mike Langeman, whom he described as formerly from the FBI, and a narcotics analyst, Fernando Valenzuela, hired earlier in 2025. Watts said the analysts have supported investigations that attracted interest from other agencies, including the FBI office in Indianapolis.
No formal commission action was required for the recognitions and staffing updates; commissioners received the updates as informational items.
