The amendment was pulled from consent after resident Diana Nichols of the Kachina subdivision addressed the council about safety concerns: residents cited fast northbound traffic on Dry Creek Road, recent accidents and frequent difficulty turning left into the only subdivision ingress. Nichols urged the council to restore the left-turn lane to improve safety for vehicles, cyclists and children accessing Sedona Charter School.
City staff said the requested amendment adds scope to the existing design contract so the design team can evaluate and, if appropriate, design the left-turn lane reinstallation. Council approved the amendment as a separate consent action; staff noted the design work is an evaluation and does not itself commit to construction funding.
Staff said design options and pros/cons will be returned in a later report for council consideration as construction funding and permitting decisions are made.
