Summary
The city announced Jeff Smith has joined the Midlothian Fire Department as assistant fire chief of administrative services after a multi‑month national recruitment; Smith brings more than 24 years of experience from the Mansfield Fire Department, and council and staff welcomed him at the meeting.
Chief McCaskill updated the council on a national recruitment for a newly authorized assistant fire chief position and introduced Jeff Smith as the chosen candidate. Smith, who began his first full week on the job, spent more time visiting staff and reviewing department procedures, Chief McCaskill said.
Chief McCaskill told the council the recruitment firm Mosaic helped the city draw a pool of more than 30 prospects from across Texas and other states, and that final selection followed multiple interactive assessments and in‑person interviews. McCaskill said Smith served more than 24 years with the Mansfield Fire Department, rising from firefighter‑paramedic to assistant fire chief, and that Smith will begin building the administrative framework for the new position in the coming months.
Council members and the mayor welcomed Smith to the department. The department said family members were recognized in the meeting; the department noted Smith’s wife Robin and his four children by name during the introduction.
