The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency adopted Resolution FPRA‑25‑03 on March 11 to formally establish a commercial sign grant program that offers reimbursable awards of up to $5,000 for new or upgraded business signage.
City staff said the program supports FPRA goals to increase private‑sector investment and small‑business activity within the redevelopment area. Since the program’s start in 2023, staff reported the agency has reimbursed 15 sign projects totaling about $60,000; staff said approximately $40,000 remains for fiscal year 2025.
Under the program outline presented to the board, applicants must submit a photo of the property, a sketch of the proposed sign, written contractor estimates and planning approval. Applications will be presented to the CRA advisory committee for review every 30 days; the CRA advisory committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the FPRA for final approval and execution of grant agreements.
Staff told commissioners they are exploring options that would allow the FPRA to pay contractors directly so small businesses without upfront capital could still use the program; the city’s purchasing department is evaluating a pre‑qualified contractor list to facilitate direct payments. The board voted to adopt the resolution after a motion and second; roll call showed unanimous approval.
Why it matters: FPRA officials said the program is intended to modernize and replace outdated signage to boost commercial appeal and encourage private investment in the redevelopment area.
